Colombo Land Board gets two UDA Directors

Colombo Land & Development Company PLC (CLDC) has appointed two new Directors nominated by the Urban Development Authority Sri Lanka (UDA). The new Directors are L.A.P. Harshan De Silva and Crishanthi Lucilla Jayawardena. De Silva is a Chartered Architect with over 20 years in the profession, in various capacities with all round experience in innovative modern designs, and a trendsetting architect in the international and local sphere with emphasis on green architecture – engineering efficient build environment, archeology/conservation in world heritage sites and design and building of gigantic monuments for world-renowned sculpture.

He is presently involved in the development work undertaken by the Government of Sri Lanka in the capacity of Chairman of the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation, improving the water bodies of Colombo and beautification and landscaping the city. He has also been appointed as the Director General of UDA and is involved in promoting integrated planning and implementation of economic, social and physical development of identified areas. Jayawardena is an Attorney-At-Law with over 30 years of post-qualification experience. She commenced her career at F.J. & G De Sarams, Attorneys-At-Law. Thereafter she joined the National Development Bank and was a member of the senior management team. Currently she is serving as a consultant at the UDA. Jayawardena is a member of the Association of Development Finance Institutions in Asia and Pacific. She has also held directorships in several companies. CLDC was recently involved in two projects – the Liberty Plaza Revamping Project and Liberty Arcade Development Project. The total exposure of the Liberty Plaza Revamping Project is approximately Rs. 1 billion. The project is concentrated on converting the existing Liberty Plaza shopping mall to an iconic building in Colombo City with a world class shopping mall. The project will add 90,000 square feet retail spaces to the building and a new parking deck with 300 parking slots. The skin of the existing building will be covered with a video wall consisting two LED digital media screens and several manual panels. For the new retail spaces created CLDC has got the opportunity to attract several world class brands such as Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Body Shop, Levis, Nike, Crocs, Crocodile and Giordano. Developing the Liberty Arcade as a mini shopping mall is the other project undertaken by CLDC recently. Liberty Arcade is a five-storey building with a rentable area of 29,000 square feet with a mix of retail and restaurant spaces. The operations of the Liberty Arcade officially commenced in July 2013. The current tenants of Liberty Arcade include a mix of well-known retail brands and restaurants such as Poppy Hana, Oro 1889 and Raja Bojun. Further, the largest and the most important project in CLDC’s history will commence within a short period of time – the Liberty Square Development Project in Pettah. This project will consist of commercial and mixed developments. CLDC has already obtained necessary approvals to launch the project. CLDC Director Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda resigned from the Board with effect from 30 June. The current Board members are Prof. C.K Deheragoda, Dilith Jayaweera, M.U.M. Ali Sabry, M.D.S. Goonatilake, Ng Yew Tong, Ng Yao Xing, C.L. Jayawardena, L.A.P.H. De Silva, D. Jayadeva and S.A. Amarasekara.
