The much sought after Best Corporate Citizen Award, 2011 will be held for the eighth consecutive year on 4 November 2011 at the Cinnamon Grand, Colombo, announced the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

The Best Corporate Citizen Award while assessing the services of a corporate towards its stakeholders is the only corporate honour in the country that evaluates all aspects of a business, such as governance and economic contribution, community relations and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), employee relations, customer and supplier relations as well as environment. Thus, the winners are evaluated for their overall performance.

The event is organised with the intention of promoting Strategic Corporate Sustainability and CSR within the business sector in Sri Lanka.

Evolving with the times and the needs, from this year onwards the Award will also incorporate areas in the Global Reporting Initiative, which were not covered in the previous years. An independent evaluation panel and a panel of judges will evaluate all applicants as per a pre determined marking scheme to select the award winners. The finalists are selected through stringent criteria and the shortlisted applicants are required to make a brief presentation and also face an interview.

The BCC award assesses the services of a corporate entity (private or government) to its stakeholders; customers/suppliers, shareholders, employees, environment and community based on two categories, companies with a turnover of Rs. 15bn or more and those with a turnover less than Rs.15bn. At the event awards will be presented to the Top Ten Corporate citizens selected from all applicants under both categories, Winner, First and Second runners up selected from all applicants under both categories, top three from the less than Rs.15bn turnover category, category awards for the best performer under each of the five categories; namely, Environment, Employee Relations, Customer & Supplier Relations, Community Relations & CSR and Governance & Economic Contribution.

In addition, five best CSR projects will also be awarded while all projects that have achieved a high standard will receive certificates of merit. The Best Corporate Citizen Award Ceremony 2011 is open not only for the applicants but also for past winners, companies/enterprises and entrepreneurs who are interested in Sustainable Business and CSR or those who wish to apply for awards in the future.
