The goal of the meeting was clear – to provide a platform where individuals representing various businesses and industries in the country represented by COYLE, could have the opportunity to air their views and concerns in order to create a mutual understanding and improving the economic endeavours of its members. More profoundly, it served to help build a bond of political cooperation, trust and friendship. The President clearly gave his assurance to the members that he would not enter into any agreement with any country that would be detrimental to the interests of the business community or in any way create losses to business entrepreneurs or the domestic industry. He went on to state that he would spearhead transparency and clear management policies to improve the balance of payments and thus facilitate better and more viable business opportunities. The meeting was memorable. It provided the right atmosphere and a positive start to a fruitful mutual partnership between the Government and business sectors. We wholeheartedly agree that our economy has to be backed up by a strong and sustainable framework of good governance, investor confidence, job generation activities and sustainable inclusive growth. COYLE reflects the deep resolve of us Sri Lankans to advance the economic growth of our country as a matter of our highest priority – that only by enlarging the economic pie can there be more and bigger slices for everyone to enjoy.”
