Reuters: Sri Lanka has rejected a consignment of 40,000 tons of diesel supplied by oil trading giant Vitol, after it failed standard tests, Petroleum Resource Minister Chandima Weerakkody said on Wednesday.
“I took the decision to reject as it is not up to our specifications,” Weerakkody told Reuters. However, he did not say which specifications the fuel failed to meet.
“We are working with the customer to resolve this matter,” a spokeswoman for Vitol in London said.
Sri Lanka has in the past withheld payments or turned away cargoes from various suppliers for failing specification tests.
Weerakkody said the CPC tested twice and the sample failed both times.
“We will not face any diesel shortage (in the country) as the CPC has the required stocks to cater to the demand.”
