The Petroleum Resources Ministry has decided to import 92 Octane petrol instead of 90 Octane petrol, Petroleum Resources Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said. Accordingly the state-owned petroleum distributor, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) will order the 92 Octane petrol from January next year. The Minister explained that the decision was made since 90 Octane petrol is not available in the international market. The other petroleum distributor in the country, Lanka Indian Oil Company (LIOC) will also be requested to import 92 Octane petrol from next January. As for the price of the 92 Octane petrol, Yapa said that the new petrol will also be sold at the same price as the 90 Octane petrol. He has added that the government will absorb the additional cost incurred in importing 92 Octane petrol.
