Ceylon Tobacco Company Plc (CTC) continues to be at the forefront of energy conservation and green initiatives with cutting-edge technologies and concepts that reduce its overall carbon footprint.
In an effort to help its employees understand the importance of environmental friendly technologies and embrace a greener lifestyle, the company recently introduced an electric vehicle-charging facility at its head office in Colombo.
The facility, which is fully-powered by solar energy, was opened by South Asia Area Director Syed Javed Iqbal at a recent ceremony. CTC CEO/Managing Director Michael Koest was also present at this event.
Speaking about the initiative, Koest noted: “We have always looked into integrating new technologies in terms of energy conservation and this specific initiative was launched with the aim of encouraging our employees to adopt renewable energy into their everyday lives. We hope that this initiative will inspire more employees to move towards greener technologies such as electric vehicles.”
In line with the company’s objectives of improving its energy footprint, CTC also introduced hybrid vehicles in their field operations, thereby further improving its track record in energy reduction. Accordingly, their total energy footprint has been on a continuous decrease in recent years.
Moving forward, the company is also looking into the possibility of introducing electric-powered vehicles to its field operations to further reduce its energy footprint.
“This initiative strengthens the company’s aspiration to introduce renewable energy into its operations,” said CTC’s Engineering Manager Illanco Upendra. “As such, CTC has made the call to lead the way in terms of switching to green energy in South Asia being the first BAT subsidiary to launch such an initiative within the area,” he added.
