Cycle to Recycle awareness ride a success

  • COMPLAST 2017: International plastics exhibition launches in Sri Lanka for the fourth consecutive edition

 COMPLAST, the complete plastics exhibition in its fourth edition, together with its organisers Enterprising Fairs India, The Plastics and Rubber Institute of Sri Lanka (PRISL) and the Lions Club District 306B2 came together in organising a unique cycle rally creating awareness for proper use of plastics responsibly and disposal to enable recycling.

The awareness cycle rally was flagged off from Independence Square Colombo 07 and reached the BMICH after a city round. The rally was flagged off by Lions District 306B2 District Governor Lion Shyama Silva MJF, PRISL President Koenraad Pringiers, and Enterprising Fairs India Managing Director B. Swaminathan. The event saw over 200 Lion members and members of the plastics industry teaming together to take the campaign message Refuse- Reduce-Reuse-Recycle and keep Sri Lanka Clean.

The rally came to a closure with the launch of one of the country’s main business to business (b2b) focused exhibition COMPLAST 2017, formerly known as Sri Lanka Plast, launched at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). The COMPLAST Exhibition takes place from 3 to 5 August from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at the Nugasevana Hall BMICH Colombo and is organised by Enterprising Fairs India Ltd., co-organised by Plastics and Rubber Institute (PRISL) and supported by NSIC. The event was declared open by Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka.

The event will also feature – a series of knowledge sharing sessions including, a CEO forum on ‘What drives the Growth of Plastics Industries’ keynote by C. Papa Rao Strategy Consultant and another important session on ‘Sri Lanka Plastics Industry – Challenges and Strategies’ by Kithai Wijesundera – Plastics Industry Consultant on 3 August at 11 a.m. at the BMICH. On 4 August a seminar on Application of Masterbatches by a speaker from Plastiblends will also be conducted at 10 a.m. The exhibition displays over 130 stalls with exhibitors from India, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Countries and visitors are able to experience a setting which attributes elements of plastics, from blow moulding machinery, extrusion machines, auxiliary equipment, bag making machinery, raw material, Masterbatch, injection moulding machines, printing and lamination machines and moulds all under one roof.

They play a catalytic role in the growth of the sector as they showcase current development both in machines and materials related to the sector. They also facilitate the adoption of new and appropriate technologies at affordable cost. They accelerate the growth of the sector and thereby create new entrepreneurs and new employment opportunities.”

The organisers – Enterprising Fairs and Plastics and Rubber Institute of Sri Lanka are confident that this expo will not only drive the growth of domestic plastics industry but also will give a stimulus and push for export of plastics finished products from Sri Lanka.
