Damro recently rewarded 80 employees from its workforce who have completed 10 years of consistent and committed work at its factories or showrooms. The employees were awarded Rs. 200,000 each as a housing fund, with which they can buy a land to build a house, renovate their homes or build a new house. Intended as a gesture of gratitude for the faithful service of their employees, Damro does not expect an interest from the employees in return.
The company began this project in 2003 and since then 1,882 Damro employees have been recognised and appreciated for their contribution to the success of the company. The company has spent Rs. 376 million throughout the years for the project.
In order to further demonstrate their appreciation for their workforce, Damro also organises free of charge overseas tours for members of their team who have completed 15 years of service with them.
There are Damro factories established at Dambadeniya, Loluwagida, Kotadeniya, Urapola, Gonagala, Thiththapaththara and Bulathsinhala and at present Damro has a workforce of 9,500.
The commitment and dedication of their employees are appreciated at Damro through many projects, of which the granting of housing funds is merely one. The company has arranged a retirement fund for employees who will retire from the company at the age of 55 years of age. The company also provides medical assistance to their employees. Should an employee meet with an accident or suffer from health issues, the company gives them the opportunity to channel any specialised doctor at any hospital in the island.
Damro is currently constructing two factories in Thorayaya, Kurunegala and Sapugasthanna, Urapola. Once construction is complete later this year, the two factories are expected to generate about 2,000 career opportunities.
In addition to their factories, Damro possesses 150 showrooms located at strategic locations around the country as well as 62 showrooms in India.
