The Government declared the first week of November as National Tax Week to increase awareness of the Government’s tax system among the public and to educate them on their responsibilities on paying taxes.

Following the declaration of National Tax Week by the Government, the Director General of Customs Dr. Neville Gunawardene met the National Chamber officials and members yesterday at his office and explained the improved automation of Customs, duty and Customs procedures adopted by the Government, in order to transform the existing system to a more investor and customer friendly environment.

The National Chamber appreciated the initiative taken by the DG Customs in expediting the implementation of e-customs, which is considered to be of immense advantage to both exporters and importers.

The DG of Customs was accompanied S.J.S Guanthunga, Additional DG Customs, and many other senior officers who interacted with the National Chamber members in sorting out their issues then and there.
