DHL Express, the world leader in international express delivery and the world’s most international company, has received a further endorsement of its ‘Employer of Choice’ claim with external recognition of its Certified International Specialist (CIS) program.

The program, which has seen all 100 000 employees of DHL Express receive world class comprehensive training on the fundamentals of international shipping and company strategy, won the Distinction in Leadership award in conjunction with learning design partner NKD Learning at the HR Distinction Awards 2013 held during the HR Business Directors Summit in the UK.

The award was given in recognition of the ‘Certified International Manager’ module of CIS, which is targeted at company managers and facilitated by DHL Express executives.

“CIS has been one of the standout contributors to the performance of DHL Express over the last three years,” said Ken Allen, CEO of DHL Express. “It has truly inspired me to see the enthusiasm with which our employees throughout the world have embraced the program and have sharpened their skills in international shipping. I am delighted to see the program recognised as ‘best in class’ by industry bodies, and I am absolutely certain our customers are feeling the impact through the enhanced service they are receiving from our international specialists.”

The award for CIM represents the third time in the last six months that the CIS training program has received external recognition. In September 2012, CIS was recognised with a Gold award (for ‘Best Sales Onboarding Program’) and two Silvers (for ‘Best Program Sales Training and Performance’ and ‘Best Sales Leadership Development Program’) at the Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards in collaboration with DHL sales training partner Strategy to Revenue. In November 2012, during the Training Journal Awards held in London, CIS was recognised with a Gold award for Best Commercial Program and a Silver in the Training Partnership category along with NKD Learning and creative agency Maverick. In winning the Gold award, CIS was selected by an independent jury from over 150 entries and commended for its global scale and tangible results, measured through its demonstrated positive impact on employee engagement. The CIS program consists of a Foundation course and specialised modules for individual functions, such as sales and customs clearance and a world class Leadership curriculum. All courses provide a unique experiential experience and are facilitated by DHL Express executives and managers worldwide. The Foundation course has been attended by all current employees of the company and serves as the main induction program for new recruits. It takes them back through the entrepreneurial history of DHL, which was founded in 1969 by three far-sighted Californian businessmen, and the pioneering spirit and customer dedication that helped it grow into the world’s most international company.

It also provides training on the fundamentals of international shipping, ensuring every employee, regardless of their role in the company, is equipped to consult customers on successful cross-border delivery.
