DIMO awarded the highest EM1 recognition by ICTAD

Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO), one of Sri Lanka’s leading and diversified engineering companies, received another notable recognition recently having awarded ‘Electrical & Mechanical 1’ (EM1) recognition in five main categories by Institute for Construction and Development (ICTAD), which is the apex accreditation institute for construction and development in the country.

ICTAD was set up by the Government of Sri Lanka to develop and promote the domestic construction industry, contractors, professionals, work force, etc. Over the years ICTAD has established itself as a recognised and important constituent of the construction industry.

Registering and grading contractors is a process pioneered by ICTAD in order to avoid anomalies and to maintain uniformity to help the The new Sri Lanka Customs Building (left) and the upcoming Mattala Airportdifferent client organisations in effective decision making in selecting the respective contractors. This process identifies the capabilities of prospective contractors to determine their general ability to undertake different types and sizes of projects without reference to any specific contract.

Further the registration and grading will be determined by evaluating a contractor mainly on their, financial capability, the technical ability with staff and plant and machinery, and the experience gained in relevant fields. In addition to above contractor should have completed minimum one single project, valued more than Rs. 25 million from each field. Moreover, ICTAD registration is a requirement for obtaining Government contracts and there are over 2,500 construction contractors registered with ICTAD on various grades.

Having received EM1 grading in five categories, namely, Refrigeration (RF),  Electrical Installations (Low Tension) (EE-LT), Electrical Installation (High Tension) (EE-HT), Extra Low Voltage Installations (Data, Telecommunication and Security Systems) (ELV), Fire Detection, Protection and Suppression (FDPS) DIMO became the only Sri Lankan organisation to receive this coveted recognition to date.

Some of the landmark construction projects partnered by DIMO in the recent past include handling total lighting solutions at R. Premadasa and Pallekalle International Cricket Stadiums, installing the country’s largest building management solutions system at the newly built Sri Lanka Customs building at Colombo and supply and installing the state of the art networked fire detection system at Hambantota International Airport.
