Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO) recently organised ‘Riya Harasa 2012’ for TATA commercial vehicles at their modern service complex at Siyambalape. More than 700 TATA commercial vehicles participated in this three-day free service and check-up campaign.

From its introduction to the country 50 years ago, TATA has been Sri Lanka’s leading commercial vehicle brand – in terms of units sold and brand value. Their customer-centric approach, the correct product mix, availability of genuine parts, after sales service and 24-hour island-wide roadside assistance has enabled TATA to maintain this leadership throughout.

In terms of after sales service, DIMO Siyambalape – referred to as the ‘Mahagedera for TATA commercial vehicles’ – offers state-of-the-art workshop and repair facilities for any type of TATA commercial vehicle.

With modern tools and equipment, recommended diagnostic software, and competent technical staff, DIMO Siyambalape is probably the most advanced and largest commercial vehicle service and repair facility in Sri Lanka. The DIMO Siyambalape complex is the main workshop and nerve centre which centrally overlooks the entire commercial vehicle after sales service network.

Currently DIMO Siyambalape has 10 workshops located in DIMO branches, five mobile workshops travelling around the country and 50 appointed service and repair dealers to meet the demand of the growing TATA customer base.

It also possesses a high-tech training centre – DIMO Automobile Training School, which trains 50 students in automobile engineering every year. DIMO Siyambalape extends up to 10 acres with 60 work bays, 10 washing bays, five breakdown assistance units and two separate sections for unit overhauling and collusion repairs. It employs more than 300 people. The DIMO Siyambalape complex was opened in 1996, and at that time was the only recognised service facility for TATA commercial vehicles in Sri Lanka.

All services offered by DIMO Siyambalape is based on three key features: respect and care, assistance on time and quality ensuring safety.

‘Riya Harasara 2012’ was held at DIMO Siyambalape from 9 to 11 November to provide an even better service by offering speedy solutions for existing problems with TATA commercial vehicles, and to establish the caring and quality service of DIMO Siyambalape.

The event was inaugurated by Ranjith Pandithage, Chairman – DIMO, Gahanath Pandithage, CEO – DIMO and directors of DIMO. Vijitha Bandara, GM – TATA division, Mahesh Karunaratne, GM – TATA Commercial Vehicle Service, and Arup Baruah, Country Manager – TATA Motors, were also present at the opening.

The main objective of the event was to educate customers on vehicle maintenance and provide a thorough technical check-up free-of-charge. Every participating commercial vehicle was technically checked by the DIMO technical staff under the supervision of TATA Motors’ technical specialists.

New commercial vehicles were inspected using computerised diagnosis tools. Six inspection lines were in operation on vehicle diagnosis and two repair lines were in operation to assist customers with repair needs. All minor repairs and adjustments identified through the diagnosis were repaired free of charge, while engine oil top-ups, battery check-ups and battery water top-ups were also carried out for free. The injectors and injector pump systems of every vehicle were checked by the Bosch department of DIMO.

An exhibition was arranged by the engine overhauling unit to showcase cut models of TATA engines and the functioning of an engine in real time. They were made aware of the importance of using specialised tools and the principal recommended methodologies in doing engine overhauls. DIMO Siyambalape uses these methods to overhaul any engine in five days.

Moreover, a new TATA genuine parts sales outlet was opened at DIMO Siymablape by the Chairman. Customers were offered special discounts to purchase TATA genuine parts, TATA commercial vehicles, TATA passenger vehicles, Bosch automotive parts, Bosch power tools, Osram lighting products and MRF tyres at this event.

The ‘Mahamaga Riya Anathurakadi – Obey Sahayata’ promotional campaign for collision repairs was launched on the first day of the campaign. This collision repair service offers several key benefits to customers – estimates within 24 hours, strict adherence to manufacture standards, usage of genuine parts only, use of correct tools and equipment by competent technicians.
