Dinesh Weerakkody yesterday launched his fourth volume titled ‘In the Best Interest of my Country’ in the presence of an eminent audience, consisting of Speaker of the House Chamal Rajapaksa, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris, Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Institute of Policy Studies Executive Director Dr. Saman Kelegama and business Harry Jayawardena.
‘In the Best Interest of my Country’ consists of 54 articles on economic and business written 1993 to present, 44 articles on political articles written between 1983 to present, and articles on human resource management and photographs from his personal photo album. The book runs into 850 pages.
Weerakkody published his third volume in 1996, the second in 1992 and the first volume in 1990. He began writing at the age of 18, submitting his work to The Sun newspaper.
In the preface Weerakkody says: “As a fledgling writer in the late ’80s, I was greatly inspired by leaders who epitomised morality and spoke the truth even if it meant forfeiting power and the good things which accompany it, that admirable ethic of accountability, the constant encouragement from many loyal readers and constructive feedback from many well-wishers motivated me to put together this current volume in the larger interest of society.”
The book addresses issues across sectors and shed light on key issues that gripped the country during the past years. The book could be referred to for economic debate, to understanding the leanings of the political world and the best practices in human resource development.
