HDCC holds Annual General Meeting 2012

Al Najath Import and Export Managing Director M. Shaheed Usuph was elected to continue as the President of the Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce (HDCC) for the year 2012/2013 at the 19th Annual General Meeting held on 21 September 2012 in Ambalantota.

On this occasion, 25 people were elected to the board of directors and among them were four female directors. The members of the new policy and financial committee are I.K. Kumara Jayasinghe – Immediate Past President, M. Shaheed Usuph – President, Sudantha Akmeemana – Senior Vice President and K.H. Padmalal - Vice President.

Towards the end of the AGM, a lecture was given by W.K.H. Wegapitiya, Chairman of Laugh Holdings Ltd. The subject of the speech was ‘How to become a success entrepreneur by preparing for the future.’ It was an inspirational speech, which encouraged HDCC members to change their attitudes and mindsets, in order to reap the maximum benefit from opportunities. The AGM was sponsored by DFCC Bank, Hatton National Bank and True Value (Pvt.) Ltd.

There was also a special session for the Hambantota District entrepreneurs who had been recognised recently with awards at national, provincial and district level:

nDr. T.H. Krishantha of Orocare Dental Products, Tangalle – Achiever of Industries Excellence at ‘Achiever 2012’ organised by the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries.

nSirisoma Edirisinghe – President of Walawe Nadi Eco Tourism Project, Ambalantota who recognized for the best model community based tourism project under the Tourist Hotels – Accommodation Sector at the Sri Lanka Tourism Awards 2012 organised by Sri Lanka Tourism

nW.H. Gamini, Managing Director of W.H.G. Group of Companies, Tissamaharama, the platinum award winner at the Hambantota District Best Entrepreneur Award 2010 organised by the Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce
