Dr. Jayasundera meets senior technocrats of Government of Japan

Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Planning Dr. P.B. Jayasundera, and a high level delegation from the Ministry of Finance visited Japan in order to call on senior technocrats as well as to participate at the Sri Lanka Investment Seminar organised by Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) in close collaboration with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tokyo and Tokyo Chamber of Commerce. Secretary Dr. Jayasundera was invited by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Dr. Jayasundera, along with Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Japan Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda called on the Vice Minister of Ministry of Finance; Vice Minister of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport & Tourism (MLIT); Senior Vice President and Vice President of JICA; and other senior most officials from the JETRO and Ministries of Economy, Trade & Industry (METI) and Foreign Affairs.
Dr. Jayasundera also conducted discussions with the Academy of Financial Services (AFS) Support Committee in Japan and JICA, which was attended by a number of senior technocrats and academics from Japan. The objectives of the AFS are to train and to equip mid to senior level officials of the Ministry of Finance and of other Government institutions in Sri Lanka. During the meetings of Secretary Dr. Jayasundera and delegation, he discussed and broached of the economic advancement of the country in the post-conflict era, dynamics of the Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) as well as the diversification of portfolio extended by the Government of Japan, promotion and potential of tourism from Japan to Sri Lanka, enhancement of economic and investment cooperation, and the intrinsic utility of the Sri Lanka based AFS, among others.
Further, Dr. Jayasundera was the Chief Guest and the keynote speaker at the Sri Lanka Investment Seminar at the JETRO. Nearly 250 potential and current investors and business leaders of Japan attended the said seminar.
The senior technocrats, whom Dr. Jayasundera met, expressed satisfaction of the rapid economic trajectory of Sri Lanka and were receptive to extend due cooperation and assistance for the progression of Sri Lanka. He thanked the key senior officials of the Government of Japan for extending cooperation and assistance for the development and advancement of the country.
The Delegation of Dr. Jayasundara included Dr. B.M.S. Batagoda, Deputy Secretary to the Treasury; H.M.N.S. Gunawardena, Director General of Legal Affairs; R.M.P. Rathnayake, Director General of Department of External Resources; C. Wijewardena, Director General of National Planning; M.S.P. Samaraweera, Director of National Council for Economic Development and W.A.M. Malkanthi, Director in-charge of Japan at the Department of External Resources, respectively.
Secretary Dr. Jayasundera and delegation, during the meetings and calls, were associated with Ambassador Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda and Deputy Chief of Mission, Saj Mendis, of the Mission.
