Secretary to the Ministries of Finance and Planning as well as Economic Development Dr. P.B. Jayasundera will make a presentation titled ‘Positioning Sri Lanka to be the Rising Star in Asia – Going Beyond Boundaries’ at a forum organised by the Joint Apparel Associations Forum (JAAF) on 19 July at 6 p.m. at Cinnamon Lakeside.

In his presentation Dr. Jayasundera is expected to outline the salient features of the economic agenda of the Government as envisaged in the vision of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and how such vision is being translated into action by effecting policy improvements, and regulatory mechanisms by undertaking institutional reforms; sectoral development plans are also expected to be highlighted.  As Sri Lanka turns a new chapter in her modern history, the Government is keen to accelerate mega development projects to achieve sustainable growth, the vision and the focus of the government is to facilitate this growth by adopting new thinking and policy planning to achieve macro level results in all sectors and exports will have to play a key role as envisaged by the Government. As one of the main contributors to the national economy, the apparel sector too has set up its targets and expects the modernisation and fast tracking of system and process to compete globally and to be one of world’s top apparel souring destinations, the industry has expressed confidence that with proper policy changes the apparel sector could be a regional hub with greater value addition that would deliver what the customer wants with excellent quality and competitive pricing.  It is in this background that the JAAF has invited Dr. Jayasundera to provide a platform for the captains of the industry to have an interactive dialogue with Dr. Jayasundera. It is expected that Dr. Jayasundera while providing an insight into the Government developmental priorities, strategies and sectoral polices will also share with the leaders of the business community the current developmental challenges and Government expectation on performance by the industry.
