Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake has appointed Dr. Sarath Paranavitane, a highly-qualified management expert and a specialist doctor, as Chairman of Lanka Hospitals Plc.
Dr. Sarath Paranavitane, a leading specialist in family medicine practice in Nugegoda, graduated from the University of Peradeniya with second class upper division honours. He also holds a MD in Family Medicine, Diploma in Child Health and Diploma in Family Medicine from the University of Colombo.
He has obtained a merit grade pass at the MBA degree examination conducted by the Manipal University in India specialising in healthcare services and also holds a MBA with distinction from the University Of Cardiff in UK. He is the first and only Board certified specialist family physician in Sri Lanka to hold a two MBA degrees.
He has presented papers and has also been the resource person at many local and international fora on medical and management conferences.
“I feel greatly honoured to have been bestowed the chairmanship of Lanka Hospital by Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake. I, together with the other Board members, will do our utmost to make Lanka Hospitals not only the best tertiary hospital in Sri Lanka but also transform this healthcare institution to a world class facility,” said Dr. Paranavitane.
“I will help strengthen the management practices that are in place to ensure good clinical governance which will translate not only to good clinical outcomes but also to improved financial stability,” he added.
