Dr. Toru Takehara new Chairman of Colombo Dockyard

Dr. Toru Takehara (PhD) has been appointed as the Chairman of the Colombo Dockyard from 1 September. He takes over from Akihiko Nakauchi, who relinquished his duties as the Chairman of the company from 31 August. Nakauchi retires after five successful years at the helm.
Dr. Takehara holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (1974) from the Osaka University, Japan and obtained his Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering in March 2000, conferred by Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan.
Soon after his graduation he joined the Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., as a Design Engineer of Crane Division at Tamano Works Japan.
From 1999-2012, he has served at Paceco Corp., located in Hayward California, USA, in higher managerial positions; as Vice President R&D (May 1999-March 2002), President CEO (April 2002-March 2011), and as the Chairman (April 2011-March 2012).
From April 2013, he was engaged as the Senior Researcher in the Japan Association of Cargo-handling Machinery Systems, in Tokyo, Japan before assuming office as the Chairman at CDPLC.
In addition to his present position as CDPLC Chairman Dr. Takehara has also been appointed as a Director of Dockyard General Engineering Services Ltd., Sri Lanka and Ceylon Shipping Agencies Ltd., Singapore. Dr. Takehara will bring in a wealth of experience to the company and the marine industry as a whole.
