Dulux adds colour to your life and the community

The global colour week conceived by the colourful people at AkzoNobel was all about further discovering, what we know about colour, how we use it and how we can add colour to people’s lives. AkzoNobel believes that adding colour to the otherwise dull and dreary spaces around us can add a bit of optimism and can even change moods and communities, putting smiles on people’s faces and thus making Sri Lanka and the world a colourful place.

Colour week has now become a phenomenon of global proportions. It has been magically transforming otherwise mundane looking neighbourhoods and buildings with an explosion of colour. And now Sri Lankans too will have a bit of colour added to their lives. Simply said, imagine the most boring or dullest building you see on your way to work or anywhere else. Now Imagine that building was painted in a few vibrant colours. You won’t be able to stop yourself smiling when you see it. This is because bright colours have a way of affecting everyone in a positive way. During the colour week, AkzoNobel had lined up a host of events that literally left a colourful and lasting impression on the lives of communities and spaces that they touched. Beginning from the 10th and ending on the 14th of October 2011 there were several events lined up.

AkzoNobelas the ambassadors of colour week kicked off the week, by having their office premises in Colombo re painted with a gamut of vibrant colours.

Next a drawing competition was held at Tiny Stars Montessori sponsored by the Dulux Child Protection Trust Fund. Mr Gerald De Saram, Managing Director of AkzoNobel Paints Lanka selected six lucky winners who received kid’s computers for their efforts. Furthermore, to reward their achievements these children are to have their drawings grace the homes of people all over Sri Lanka and the world during Christmas as one of the drawings will become the face of the Christmas card for AkzoNobel in Sri Lanka this year.

All participants of the event received colourful gifts while being hosted to a tea party at the venue. As the colour week progressed, the 13th of October, referred to as colour your community day had the staff of AkzoNobel painting the walls of a building at Granville Wickramarathna Memorial children’s home, Gonawala, adding the colour of hope to the lives of the people there. Signalling the culmination of colour week, a cocktail ‘all about celebrating colour’, was held at Park Street Mews.

A unique feature of the evening was that augmented reality displays were used to demonstrate what AkzoNobel employees both locally and worldwide had helped to achieve, together with the help of the local communities.

Another feature of the evening which captured the attention of the guests was the gesture based installation art piece which let the participants play with colour in a virtual platform.

While the colour week came to an end on the 14th of October, Dulux dealers around the island will be invited to engage in an island wide colour competition.

The simple brief to the dealers will be that they do the most imaginative and creative thing with colours that they can think of to their outlet. The winning dealer will be given a trip to Malaysia for two people, which promises a colourful experience.
