Economic Association Annual Sessions from 14 - 15 Oct.

The Sri Lanka Economic Association will be holding its Annual Sessions of 2011 on 14-15 October at the Centre for Banking Studies, Central Bank, Rajagiriya under the theme of “Achieving National Economic Goals in the midst of Global Challenges.”

The inaugural Session at 4 p.m., Friday, 14 October will be followed by the Theme Seminar on Saturday 15 October. The sessions will be inaugurated by Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Senior Minister of International Economic Cooperation, while Dr. Koshy Mathai, IMF Resident Representative for Sri Lanka and Maldives, will be the Keynote Speaker.

The Sessions will examine strategies and policies that have to be pursued to mitigate the potential risks from external developments to inflation outlook, exchange rate, foreign reserves, balance of payments, FDI and other financial flows. The proceedings would enhance  the awareness of policy makers and practitioners  to formulate action plans and be prepared to face challenges successfully.

Technical Sessions will cover Emerging Supply shocks and Demand Pressures; Economic Impact of Energy Prices; Commodity Prices and Inflation; Impact of Trade Imbalances; Trade Policies and Trade Agreements; Protection vs Free Trade; Role of External Finance; Prospects for and Risks in FDI and Portfolio Flows; Impact on Remittances and Employment Opportunities; Imperative of Inclusive Development; Poverty Deprivation and Economic and Social Equity.

Registration will be on a first come first served basis as the number of places will be limited.

Registration Fee: Members: Rs. 2,250, Non Members: Rs. 3,250. (Those who register before 30 September will be entitled to a discount of Rs. 250)
