The Employers’ Federation of Ceylon in partnership with the Jaffna Chamber of Commerce will be holding a workshop to educate small and medium companies in the Jaffna region on the practical application of industrial law, EPF and ETF for their enterprises. The workshop will also show the real business case for employing Persons with Disabilities in the region.
Following the successful signing of their MOU with the Yalpanam Chamber in 2011, the EFC has been looking forward to holding a workshop in the region specifically designed to teach small and medium companies about best business practice when it comes to industrial relations.
The one day workshop will be held on 27 July 2013 and will look at the practical application of EPF and ETF for smaller enterprises as well as offering guidance and advice on industrial relations. In addition to sessions on best business practice the EFC will be holding a short session on the Business Case for employing persons with disabilities. Jaffna has a disabled population of 7800 people, the majority of whom are without jobs. 20% of this population has received their disability as a result of the previous conflict in the area. The EFC’s Disability Network which has been in operation since 2000, and has successfully secured jobs for over 400 persons with disabilities through various initiatives, is keen to educate businesses in the region about the effective contribution this community can make to enterprises. The Network has completed its second IT training course for visually impaired trainees in Vavuniya and these trainees will be invited to receive their certificates of completion at Saturday’s workshop.
