Etisalat Lanka and British Council, Sri Lanka, have once again entered into partnership to offer another special value added service for Etisalat’s loyal customers by introducing English language courses through Interactive Voice Response (IVR) technology on personal mobile devices. Through this partnership with British Council, Etisalat will go one step beyond its SMS based teaching method. Now users can access the learning portal to actively engage in learning the English language. Commenting on this partnership, Etisalat Lanka Chief Commercial Officer Janaka Jayalath said, “Being a brand that is closest to the minds of Sri Lankans, we know the value of English fluency in today’s world. All aspects of an individual’s life ranging from social media, business environment and even commercial transactions require a basic knowledge of the language. Through this service we are happy to provide customers with a very effective methodology of learning English. Through the usage of IVR, the customer’s learning experience is further enhanced, allowing it to suit their own pace of learning.” This collaboration will offer customers an opportunity to learn English at a marginal cost while having access to the many facilities offered by this service to fully grasp the language. British Council Sri Lanka Country Director Keith Davies commented, “This is an excellent way of enabling English language learning for a wide and diverse audience. This service offers customers a chance to listen to authentic mini dialogues on a number of everyday topics which they can then practise. They are also tested on their learning through an SMS at the end of each lesson. This innovative service contributes to the further improvement of English language skills of Sri Lankans. We commend Etisalat for helping us take English language learning directly to the communities through the use of technology.” Etisalat customers can learn English through British Council for a subscription charge of just Rs. 15 per week by simply dialing 3333. Customers also have the option of using this service at Rs. 5 per lesson.
