Etisalat Lanka partners Department of Pensions to empower country’s ‘Smart Pensioners’

Leading mobile telecommunications service provider Etisalat Lanka, in partnership with the Department of Pensions, launched a special bundled offer of products and services exclusively for pensioners at the National Pensioners’ Day event.
Organised by the Department of Pensions, the event was held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa in order to uplift the lives of Sri Lanka’s pensioners. Etisalat Lanka joined hands with the Department of Pensions to bring this initiative to those retired as an expression of gratitude for the services rendered by pensioners to the nation. The event took place at the Pensioners’ Resort in Wedamulla, Kelaniya.
Distinguished invitees present at the occasion were Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs, W. D. J. Seneviratne, Minister of Mass Media and Information, Keheliya Rambukwella, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs, P.B. Abeykoon, Director General of the Department of Pensions, Sunil Hettiarachchi and Etisalat Lanka’s Deputy CEO and Chief Financial Officer Riyaaz Rasheed, Chief Commercial Officer Janaka Jayalath and Chief Technology and Information Officer Chandana Gunasekera.
The ‘Smart Pensioner’ is a concept introduced by the Department of Pensions as a part of their new vision to enhance lifestyle options of pensioners. As times change, development in technology has created many digital technological opportunities for pensioners.
In light of this, developing an additional source of income for pensioners is encouraged through entrepreneurship, volunteerism and networking to enrich their life by being actively engaged in productive ventures, to help pensioners continue contributing to the national economy.
As a leading telecommunications provider, Etisalat has been at the forefront of introducing new communication solutions which resonate with the needs of those from all ages.
Etisalat also launched a special bundled offer on National Pensioners’ Day. Etisalat provides the mobile technological platform, through their HD Voice-enabled network and a full range of smart devices to create new engagement opportunities which have never been experienced before by this community.
Under this special scheme which is geared to empower pensioners, Etisalat offers a range of services to meet a pensioner’s need and income level. Through this, Etisalat will provide special concessions to purchase mobile phones, tablets and dongles with easy payment schemes starting from Rs. 300 that are deductible from the monthly pension.
Special free offers are also made available on voice, data and other value added services for one year, exclusively for all Government pensioners as part of this national initiative which seeks to uplift their lives by optimising modern technology as ‘Smart Pensioners’.
To register for the special Etisalat bundled offer under the ‘Smart Pensioner’ scheme, a copy of the pensioner’s Identity Card, a copy of the National Identity Card, a duly filled voucher by the Department of Pensions and an approved Product Voucher from the relevant Divisional Secretariat need to be submitted to the nearest Etisalat Flagship Store, located island-wide.
