Expolanka Holdings, EFL and Bio Extracts bag awards

Sri Lanka’s diversified conglomerate Expolanka Holdings PLC, Expo Freight (EFL) and Bio Extracts received top notch accolades at the National Business Excellence Awards 2013, organised by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka. Expolanka Holdings PLC clinched Gold for Diversified Group and Silver for Global Reach while Expo Freight won Silver for Shipping and Related services. Bio Extracts won a Merit award in the Manufacturing-other category. “We are honoured and humbled to receive these prestigious awards, which applaud our passion for excellence, innovation and our strength in diversity. We see this as an unequivocal endorsement of the excellence of our performance,” commented Head of Marketing, Corporate Communications and CSR Paddy Weerasekera. The National Business Excellence Awards is an annual award competition conducted by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) with a view of recognising the business enterprises, which have demonstrated excellence in business while contributing to the economic progress of the country. Having commenced in 2004 as NBEA 2004 the National Business Excellence Awards have recognised the top class businesses which excelled in their performance every year. Expo Freight (EFL) CEO Jagath Pathirane said, “EFL has been in the forefront of Sri Lanka’s Freight & Logistics industry for decades and we are elated to be recognised for Business Excellence at such an esteemed occasion. We owe this success to our 1,200 plus staff and our loyal customers.” 8-point criterion Applications were evaluated on the basis of an 8-point criterion and reviewed and evaluated in a three-stage process – Desk Review, Interviews and Judges’ Final Review. The criterion covers Business and Financial Performance, Global Reach, Knowledge Integration, Technological Investment, Capacity Building, Performance Management, Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility. The panel of judges made their final selection of the awardees after a careful review of all preliminary evaluation reports and the interviews. Bio Extracts Ltd Chief Executive Officer Riza Bahardeen commented, “This award is a tribute to our spirit of innovation and well-thought out business strategy. We bring together age-old herbal medicine system and modern technology to produce a range of herbal products. We are honoured that the National Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka recognised our business excellence.” Expolanka Holdings PLC and Expo Freight (EFL) within the year 2013 were awarded with numerous local and international awards including SLIM Brand Excellence, Arc Awards, NCE Awards, and LACP awards.
