A stock of 173 counterfeit KDK fans were seized from several locations in Pettah, by a team of Police Officers of the Colombo Crimes Division.

The action was initiated by KDK fans brand-owner Panasonic Ecology Systems through their lawyers at Sudath Perera Associates.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya issued the search warrants and a CCD team headed by Director CCD SP Nishantha De Soysa, Station OIC Neville Silva and Branch OIC Rathnayake carried out the raids.

Upon examining the counterfeit KDK fans, the representatives of the brand owner informed that the seized products were of inferior quality and safety measures were not up to the required standards thereby posing safety risks to the consumer.

The owners of the shops containing the counterfeit items were arrested and later released on bail. The matter is currently pending in Court.

KDK is a household name in Sri Lanka and is presently a market leader in ceiling fans and pedestal fans.

The sole authorised local agent and distributor for legitimate KDK products in Sri Lanka is Elite Radio & Engineering Co. in Nawala.
