FCC Commissioner Mignon L. Clyburn meets AmCham members

Mignon L. Clyburn, FCC (Federal Communications Commission) Commissioner met industry specialists from the telecommunication, information technology and BPO sectors at a private meeting organised by the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) on 3 October 2012 at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo.



The meeting emphasised the importance of being prepared to face the digital world. The FCC Commissioner stressed the importance of learning and growing with the new technology to meet the future demands.

The meeting also discussed the regulators and the role of Government in telecommunications. The commissioner stated that it is important that both the Government and the private sector work together to promote effective communication because neither party can achieve success on their own.

It was also mentioned that the rapidly growing telecommunication industry should also reach the rural areas and the low income individuals in order to stay connected with the rest of the world. She also mentioned that the emphasis should also be given to the disabled and elderly.

The meeting which was an interactive discussion comprised AmCham members from Aeturnum Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd., Eureka Technology Partners, Calcey Technologies (Pvt.) Ltd., John Keells Computers, Amba Research Lanka, Microsoft Sri Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd., Motorola Technologies Lanka Ltd., RR Donnelley Global BPO, Dialog Axiata PLC and Virtusa (Pvt.) Ltd.
