The Nepal-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce in Kathmandu, under the patronage of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Nepal, organised a meeting between Secretary General of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL), Ajith D. Perera, and the members of the Nepal-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce at Shangri-La Hotel in Kathmandu recently.
The large digital screen at the venue arranged by the organisers relayed information on trade, investment opportunities and tourism promotion in Sri Lanka, allowing entrepreneurs to consider Sri Lanka as their perfect holiday and business destination.
The FCCISL Secretary General used the PowerPoint presentation on ‘Investment and Business opportunities in Sri Lanka’ to give detailed information to the participants about business opportunities in Sri Lanka.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Guest W.S. Perera, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Nepal, highlighted opportunities to enhance trade, investment and tourism between Sri Lanka and Nepal. She also stressed that Sri Lanka had the potential to access Nepal’s service market in a much larger way.
After the presentation, the Nepal business community comprising importers of spices, tea, healthcare products, coconut milk, dried fish and coir products, had extensive business discussions with the FCCISL Secretary General on exploring future business opportunities.
Commenting on future business prospects between two countries, Ajith Perera said that at present trade between the two countries was negligible and in this context he welcomed the recent initiative of Himalaya Airlines to commence direct flights between Kathmandu and Colombo, enhancing the connectivity between the two capitals.
He also stated that he was very happy about the business interest shown by the Nepal business community in products of Sri Lankan origin. The power sector in Nepal was another area of interest for Sri Lankan investors and he said that already a few Sri Lankan investors had shown an interest in hydropower projects in Nepal.
FCCISL will exchange trade or investment delegations between Nepal and Sri Lanka with the help of the Sri Lankan Embassy in the near future.
