The spirit of Sri Lankan entrepreneurship has been a beacon of hope for the nation. Sri Lanka’s business heroes have taken the lead in fostering growth and economic development, creating and sustaining businesses in challenging environments and have gone to yield outstanding results for the country.

The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) salutes these outstanding and enterprising people by recognising and rewarding them through its Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, which is now on its 15th year.

Today, the 3 December 2010, through these prestigious awards, FCCISL honours the resilient people of the North and East who held the economy of these two provinces amidst the three-decade long war that prevailed in their areas. The Northern and Eastern Provincial Awards of the Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year programme is being held at the Urban Council Hall, Vavuniya in collaboration with the Vavuniya District Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture as its flagship event under the patronage of Major General (retired) G. A. Chandrasiri, governor of Northern Province. Guests of honour of the event are Tissa Jayaweera, President, FCCISL and P. S. M. Charles, District Secretary/Government Agent, Vavuniya.  This year, HNB Assurance and LOLC have come forward to join hands with the FCCISL to recognise Sri Lanka’s true entrepreneurial talent. Like in the past, Wijeya Newspapers is the print media partner for Sinhala and English press. Thinakural has joined as the Tamil print media partner. For the first time, MTV/MBC Networks (Pvt) Ltd tied up with FCCISL for electronic media in all three languages. Bates Strategic Alliance being the creativity partner, this year’s event has taken a new look with the catchy theme, “Sri Lankan Business Heroes”. AV Productions is the event management partner while Highrise Printers is the official printer of the event.

Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year being the premier and unique awards programme to recognise the country’s most outstanding entrepreneurs both nationally and provincially, it will go round Sri Lanka with its Provincial Awards programme during December with today’s start.
