Fined for selling books

A man who was accused of running a book selling outlet on the pavement at Slave Island, Colombo 2 was ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 1,500 by a Colombo Court yesterday.

The man who runs the book selling outlet had been arrested by the Slave Island police and produced in Court on charges of running an outlet by obstructing public movement around the Slave Island area.

The accused pleaded guilty to all charges. Accordingly Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne imposed a fine and directed the police that production items which were taken into police custody be released to the accused. Counsel Jayantha Dias Nanayakkara appeared for the accused.
