Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa declared open five bridges in Trincomalee and Batticaloa Districts constructed under the ‘Neganahira Nawodaya’ programme.

All these five bridges are on the Trincomalee Batticaloa A-15 road and hitherto people and vessels crossed these rivers by passenger boats.  These bridges were constructed with funds from the Government and with assistance received from France.

Most of the infrastructure including roads in the Eastern Province was badly affected by the conflict in the past 30 years and the newly-opened five bridges contribute to the Sri Lankan Government’s rehabilitation programme and improve the living conditions of the people in the Eastern Province.
