Former Reserve Bank of India Executive to speak at CCC Best Corporate Citizens awards

Dr. Subir Gokarn, a Former Deputy Governor of The Reserve Bank of India will be the key note speaker at the Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Award 2014, which is organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and will be held on 25 November 2014 in Colombo.
Gokarn, who was named as the first director of research for Brookings India, will speak under the title of, ‘From “nice to have” to “must have”: sustainability and business strategy’.
The Indian economist, who also serves as a Brookings senior fellow, was previously Chief Economist of Standard & Poor’s Asia-Pacific from 2007-09 and Executive Director and Chief Economist of CRISIL from 2004-07.
He received his B.A. (Hons) in economics from St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai in 1979 and his M.A. in economics from the Delhi School of Economics in 1981. He was awarded a Fulbright Research Fellowship in 1997, on which he spent an academic year at the Economic Growth Centre at Yale University (US). He is currently a member of the National Security Advisory Board of India and a columnist with the Business Standard.
“Dr. Gokarn brings with him credentials as an economist and his experience in leadership and decision-making roles in the private and public sectors makes him a good choice to speak at the upcoming event,” said Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Deputy Secretary General Alikie Perera.
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce is holding the Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Award 2014, for the 11th consecutive year, with the objective of promoting and recognising corporate sustainability in Sri Lanka and encourages businesses to adopt best practices to create goods and services.
Over 70 companies have forwarded their applications to take part in the competition and the applications are now being assessed by a competent panel of judges and evaluators, who will select the winners.
