Four electrical shops fined for selling fake KDK ceiling fans

The Colombo Chief Magistrate and the Nugegoda Magistrate cases filled by the Commercial Crime Division of the CID, fined four electrical shops in Pettah and Nugegoda respectively for selling fake KDK ceiling fans to unsuspecting customers.



Three shops, were accused of selling, displaying for sale or having in their possession for sale fans falsely bearing the KDK trade name so as to mislead the customers a genuine KDK Ceiling fans, were fined Rs. 25,000 each by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli on a plea of guilty to the charges.

In another case filed on the same charges by the CID before the Nugegoda Magistrate Anura Kumara Herath, a fine of Rs. 100,000 was imposed on New Lanka Traders of Nugegoda. The accused undertook to pay the fine on or before January 13.

The CID initiated the investigations and raided the traders on complaints made by Elite Radio and Engineering Co., (Pvt) Ltd, the sole distributors for KDK fans of Japan.

Counsel Sudath Perera of Sudath Perera Associates appeared on behalf of the complainant and watched their interests during the inquiry.
