The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in association with the Friend of the Earth Organisation will conduct a workshop titled ‘Friend of the Earth: International Certification of Sustainable Agriculture and Farming’ on Monday 11 May at 2 p.m. in the Ground Floor Auditorium of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Colombo 2. Friend of the Earth (www.friendoftheearth.org), an organisation based in Milan, Italy and with a field office in Sri Lanka, is a non-profit project for the certification of products from sustainable agriculture and farming worldwide. Following the positive experience of the Friend of the Sea (www.friendofthesea.org) certification for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture in which 17 fishing companies have already certified in Sri Lanka and more than 400 fisheries in 50 other countries, Friend of the Earth is rapidly growing as the leading international eco label for sustainable agriculture production. In 2015 Friend of the Earth and Friend of the Sea will be actively promoting certified sustainable companies, among others, at the Universal EXPO 2015 Milan (TuttoFood inaugural event, May 2015) and at Anuga (Cologne, Germany) premiere World Food Fair in October 2015. More over the organisation will arrange a very powerful and exclusive business to business event for certified fisheries products only, in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 2015. The workshop is intended to introduce Friend of the Sea (FoS) and Friend of the Earth (FoE) certification programs for sustainable fisheries and sustainable agriculture. FoS and FoE intend providing the Sri Lankan companies a top market level visibility through their presence, expertise and global recognition. Friend of the Earth Founder and Director Dr. Paolo Bray will conduct the workshop, to introduce to Sri Lankan organisations the Friend of the Earth global standards and to explain how export-oriented Sri Lankan companies can achieve the certification of sustainable agriculture, and fisheries as well, for their products and meet the growing demand of big international buyers for products certified by Friend of the Earth and Friend of the Sea. The presentations will also include SGS Audit Process for Friend of the Earth with testimonials from the representative sectors of fisheries, rice and milk and yoghurt.
