Future of tourism and ICT/BPO: Find out at the Sri Lanka Economic Summit in July

The Sri Lanka Economic Summit will get underway on 4 July 2011 under the theme ‘Driving Growth through Fast Track Implementation’. Amongst the many timely topics that would be taken up for discussion are ‘Growth Opportunities in Tourism’ and ‘New Growth Opportunities – ICT/BPO’.

The session on tourism will consist of a keynote address by Dr. Nalaka Godahewa – Chairman, Sri Lanka Tourism on the plans for development of the tourism sector and opportunities for investment.

It will be followed by the speech of Madhu Rao – Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer, Shangri-la Asia Ltd. on ‘Why Shangri-la decided to invest in Sri Lanka and join the Sri Lankan Tourism industry,’ following which a panel discussion will take place where industry leaders and investors will express their views and respond to questions from the audience.

The panel will consist of Tourist Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL) President Anura Lokuhetty, Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) President Nilmin Nanayakkara, SriLankan Airlines Chairman Nishantha Wickremasinghe, SLTDA Head of Standards, Quality Assurance and Investment, Legal and Special Projects Dileep Mudadeniya and John Keells Holdings PLC Deputy Chairman Ajith Gunawardena.

Day two of the summit will kick off with the session on ICT/BPO where industry experts will speak on the prospects and challenges faced in developing the sector and achieving the targets set out for the industry.

Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) CEO Reshan Devapura will give the keynote speech, followed by an address by Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies (SLASSCOM) Chairman Dinesh Saparamadu.

A panel discussion will follow thereafter with the participation of  Bharti Airtel Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. Managing Director and CEO Amali Nanayakkara, Eurocenter CEO Mano Sekaram, WNS Global Services (Pvt) Ltd. Senior Vice President Niranjan Tavarayen, Amba Research Lanka (Private) Ltd. CEO Kemal De Soysa and LIRNEasia CEO Dr. Rohan Samarajiva as the moderator.
