The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) had its 53rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 3 October at Hotel Taj Samudra, Colombo. The Chief Guest was Anura Siriwardena, Secretary, Ministry of Industry and Commerce and Chairman ITN.

Gunasekera, who had been the Chairman – CNCI, was re-elected Chairman for another term. Presenting the Chairman’s Review, Gunasekera spoke on the importance of industry and manufacturing sector as the essential engine of development of any economy and how it should be nurtured. Similarly, he mentioned the contemporary challenges that industries are facing, what industrialists expect from Government policy makers and what the Chamber looks forward to.
Gunasekera is the Managing Director of Union Chemicals Lanka PLC. He is an engineer by profession and holds an MBA from the Post Graduate Institute of Management (PIM) and an Attorney-at-Law with a Master of Law from University from University of Colombo. He was honoured by the PIM Alumni (PIMA) with the Platinum Honours Award in 2009, which is an award given for PIM graduates who have significantly progressed in their academic and professional careers. He is also a Visiting Lecturer in Law at the Open University of Sri Lanka, under the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
His knowledge and skills with years of experience in the industrial sector have added strength for his able leadership to run the CNCI towards the desired destinations.
