‘Gateway to East 2016’ Trade Fair to be held in Batticaloa, May 2016

With the conclusion of the decades-long war, the eastern region of the country has now become a golden opportunity for businesses to invest, and establish new trade links.

The massive infrastructure development currently underway in the region has also paved the way for many investment opportunities in the region which could not be afforded previously. The regions, roads, electricity, bridges and all other core facets are currently being developed in the Government’s endeavour to ensure the region is on par with many of the most potent business and lifestyle destinations in the world.

As such, preparations are now underway to hold the most awaited trade fair in the eastern region of Sri Lanka titled ‘Gateway to East 2016’ at the Shivananda School Grounds in Batticaloa on 27, 28 and 29 May.

The three-day event is organised by Evolution Events and Corporate Services, a professional event management company that specialises in handling trade fairs and exhibitions, in association with the Batticaloa Chamber of Commerce and Industries and supported by the Batticaloa Municipal Council.

The company said that the prime objective of the event is to help business entities of various industries to make inroads into the east and open the doors for entrepreneurs and established businesses to operate in an environment which is conducive for both long and short term investment. They expect the event to provide and ideal opportunity for the business community from all over the country to meet with the local entrepreneurs and to forge new business links. Indian exhibitors are also participating in the trade fair.

The event comprises a large number of booths covering an extensive range of products and services across a wide section of industries and comprises both local and international stalls catering to a diverse variety of needs and services. 

Spanning 150 exhibitor stalls, and estimated to attract an audience of over 10,000 visitors per day , it is considered the single most focal point for a wide spectrum of investors and citizens, giving plenty of scope for industries such as finance and leasing, banks, insurance, consumer goods, consumer electronics, telecom, furniture and interior, hospitality ,beauty and cosmetics, health sector, education institutes, local and overseas recruitment agencies, IT industry, automobile, agriculture, power and energy, marine, and pharmaceuticals. The trade fair will also be promoted in all the major cities in the eastern region such as Kathankudy, Kallady, Eravur, Kalkudah, Valachenai, Chankaladi, Vakarai, Punanei, Kathiraveli, Ottamavedi, Akkaraipattu, Sammanthurai, Thirukovil and Karaitheevu.

With a clear mandate and a road map for development, the exhibition is slated to provide opportunities not only for a wide range of industries, but also encompasses many other facets such as provide new job and education opportunities, create joint ventures and franchises between eastern and western businesses, bring out the latest products and services to the people of the east, bring in foreign direct investments to the Eastern Province and help support the Government’s initiative of promoting ‘Invest in East’.
