German County Main-Kinzig-Kreis in ‘town twinning’ agreement with Beruwala

Main-Kinzig-Kreis (MKK), a county in the state of Hessen, Germany, and the town of Beruwala signed a town twinning agreement this month, capping a nearly decade-long relationship of friendship and cooperation.

MKK first offered assistance to the people of Beruwala back in 2004, following the devastating tsunami, on the initiative of then District Administrator Karl Eyerkaufer. Since that time, MKK has supported multiple projects in Beruwala through public funds and private donors, such as the construction of schools and a kindergarten, the establishment of a dental clinic and the support for the orphanage ‘Mama und Papa’ (Mum and Dad) for children with disabilities. The town twinning agreement marks yet another milestone in the relations between MKK and Beruwala. A delegation from MKK, including the new District Administrator Erich Pipa and his predecessor Eyerkaufer, travelled to Beruwala for the signing ceremony, receiving a warm welcome from Mayor Milfar Caffoor. German Ambassador Dr. Juergen Morhard also participated in the event.

Pipa expressed the hope that the agreement would mark the starting point for a fruitful and enriching exchange bringing together students, athletes, artists and musicians from both MKK and Beruwala and that both regions would benefit greatly from this partnership.
