The bi-annual, prestigious global commerce excellence awards, organised in association with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) under the guidance and the leadership of Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal will be held for the third time on 15 December 2014 at the Galadari Hotel Colombo. The event will be coordinated by the Shippers’ Academy Colombo, a leading institute established for training skills, capacity building and consulting in the field of global commerce and logistics. The concept was initiated by the CBSL governor after the 30 year old conflict ended in 2009. The global commerce excellence awards recognises companies, institutions, banks including the public sector along with individuals  who have contributed in a large scale to support the country’s GDP growth in the global commerce industry of Sri Lanka. The other unique character of this excellence awards is that it is the first PPP for an award ceremony of this nature. The Shippers’ Academy Colombo is currently making arrangements for the event with the guidance of CBSL and with the support of the EDB, BOI SLPA AASL, and Gem and Jewellery Authority in 2014. The nominations will be provided by these institutions along with the respective trade associations for consideration for the awards. The previous two ceremonies were held in 2011 and 2012 respectively recognising Sri Lankan companies, public sector and individuals and international companies that were present in Sri Lanka prior to 2009 and supported global commerce activities to sustain the economy during the terror of LTTE. Each year over 100 recipients were nominated for their performance based on nominations proposed by selected sector intuitions and associations to the CBSL. The 2014 awards of excellence will be awarded to Sri Lankan exporters in multiple sectors, bankers, service providers, state institutions providing trade facilitation, news and business  magazines, brands, investors and individuals  related to global commerce excellence. In parallel to this, The Governors Challenge Trophy for Global Commerce Excellence, a prestigious quiz program organised by the Shippers’ Academy Colombo will be conducted prior to the awards ceremony. The quiz is open to all corporate sector and public sector involved in global commerce and will be conducted by the International Quizzing Association Sri Lanka chapter.
