A total of 7.2M/kgs came under the hammer this week. There was good demand. Ex-Estate offerings totalled 1.1M/kgs, which comprised of a selection of improved liquoring Westerns and Nuwara Eliyas. Consequently a selection of improved Western BOP/BOPF’s appreciated irregularly following Airmail inquiry, whilst the others declined in value. In the below best category BOP/BOPFs were irregular. At the lower end, whilst BOPs declined Rs. 5-10 per kg the corresponding BOPFs were irregular and tended dearer. Nuwara Eliya’s realised fairly useful prices following quality, whilst Uva/Udapussellawas witnessed a bearish trend. The price structure for CTC teas showed no significant change, whilst there was good demand for liquoring leafy teas. There was improved demand from Shippers to the CIS particularly, for a cross section of below best and plainer category Teas. Improved seasonal teas were supported by shippers to UK, Japan and the continent. Low Growns comprised of 3.4M/kgs. There was good demand. In the leafy catalogue, high priced BOP1/OP1s were irregularly lower. Others particularly the clean leaf sorts were fully firm. PEK/PEK1s too were fully firm to dearer. Better OP/OPA’s were barely steady. Others were however fully firm to dearer. In the Tippy catalogues too, better FBOP/FF1s together with the cleaner secondaries were firm to selectively dearer. Others, particularly where leaf style was not maintained, prices were irregular and lower. Tippy teas too met with improved Demand and were often dearer to previous. Shippers to CIS, Dubai, Kuwait, Turkey together with Iraq and Libya were active this week. (Source: Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers)
