The Cabinet of the Ministers approved a proposal made by the Minister of Industry and Commerce to build three factory buildings each in Welioya and the Musali Divisional Secretariat Divisions which are situated in the remote districts of Mullaitivu and Mannar.

These buildings will be allocated for the prospective investors on a long-term lease basis to recover the expenditure incurred by the Government for the construction of these buildings.

This decision had been taken due to the reluctance of investors to carry out infrastructure development activities since these areas come under the remote districts of Mulativu and Mannar.

A survey carried out has revealed that over 2,500 youth are being prepared to be employed in the Apparel industry and about 500 youth have already gained experience in the field through employment in apparel industry outside these areas.

These industrial estates will help to elevate income levels and the living conditions of the unemployed and resettle people in relevant areas.
