Growing interest for ‘Best Corporate Citizen of 2015’ awa rds scheme

The Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Award 2015, an annually conducted competition to assess the best sustainability practices adopted by the Sri Lankan corporate firms, have attracted wide scale interest from local entities.

Firms, representing diverse sectors have shown their interest to take part in the contest, which the awards would be presented to the winners at a glitzy event to be held on 26 November in Colombo, amidst a high profile gathering.

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the premier business Chamber in the country, introduced this competition 12 years back with the intent of encouraging the corporate sector to adopt best sustainability practices. 

The competition focuses on all stakeholders of the company ranging from employees, customers, community, shareholders, Government and also the environmental aspect. Integrating sustainability practices by corporates is a win-win as it creates value for the company through the better use of resources and in the process also helps to preserve the planet; making it a better place to live.

The Chamber has lined up a galaxy of awards to recogniSe the best performers of corporate sustainability initiatives in Sri Lanka, ranging from the ‘Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Award 2015’, Top 10 corporate, Category awards, sector awards to the top performers of key sectors of the economy and ‘The Best Presented Application’.

In addition to the main award, the competition will also recogniSe exemplary projects carried out by companies relating to planet and people such as education and community services, etc.

MAS Intimates Ltd. won the top prize of the ‘Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Award 2014,’ while Commercial Bank became the first runner up and the Aitken Spence PLC became the 2nd Runner up.

In the meantime, the 2014 event saw, Laugfs Gas PLC becoming the top winner of the ‘Category B’ which consists of companies, which has an annual turnover of less than Rs. 15 billion, while, Standard Chartered Bank and Watawala Plantations PLC, became the 1st and the 2nd runner up, respectively in the same group.

Aitken Spence PLC, Ceylon Biscuits Ltd., Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC, Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, Hatton National Bank, Mas Intimates, People’s Leasing and Finance PLC, Sampath Bank, Singer Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Telecom PLC are the ‘Top Ten Best Corporate Citizens of the Year 2014’.
