Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Harsha de Silva met with Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop in Canberra yesterday during his official visit as a special guest of the Australian Government.
The Ministers discussed wide-ranging issues with a particular focus on security in the Indian Ocean.
The Deputy Minister was following up on the agreements during the visit of the Prime Minister in February. During that visit the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka announced in Melbourne Sri Lanka’s willingness to conduct exploratory talks on the design and development of an Indian Ocean Order on the freedom of navigation.
