Hayleys Fibre companies win four National Business Excellence Awards

Exceptional business performances won two companies in the Hayleys Group’s fibre sector four awards at the prestigious 2010 National Business Excellence Awards presented by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka.

Lignocell (Pvt.) Ltd., a global leader in the growing media industry, and BonTerra Lanka Ltd., a pioneer manufacturer and exporter of Stitched Erosion Control Blankets (ECBs), shone at this year’s awards gala at the Colombo Hilton by winning two silver awards, a bronze award and a merit award, underlining their stature in the local fibre industry.

Lignocell won two Silver awards in the Manufacturing Non Traditional Exports Sector and in the Medium Category while BonTerra won Bronze in the Small Category and a Merit Award in the Agriculture and Plantation Sector.

Performances in key areas including business and financial growth, global reach, knowledge integration, technological investment, capacity building, performance management, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility were considered for the National Business Excellence Awards. These awards honour businesses that contribute significantly towards the development of the country through excellent business practice.

Incorporated in 1990, Lignocell (Pvt.) Ltd. aims to change lives with its eco-friendly product portfolio. The company produces briquettes, bales, blocks, grow bags and hydroponics products for growing media applications.

Lignocell was the first local company in the industry to receive ISO 9001-2000 quality system certification from the Sri Lanka Standards Institution and accreditation from the Dutch council for accreditation. The company exports its products to USA, UK, Italy, Portugal, Egypt, Japan, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Canada.     

BonTerra Lanka is a joint venture between BonTerra Weiland GmbH, considered the most up-to-date natural fibre producer for soil and environmental protection in the world today, and Hayleys Exports Plc. All BonTerra products meet ISO 9001 quality standards.

The company produces stitched, heavy 3D, heavy PP, light PP, combine and natural blankets for use in horticulture for erosion control and roof greening applications.

The other companies in the Hayleys Fibre sector are Hayleys Exports Plc, Volanka Exports Ltd., Toyo Cushion Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd., and Chas P Hayley.
