The Hayleys Group’s Chairman’s Awards were held for the second consecutive year recently at a glittering event at The Kingsbury Hotel. The awards were organised to recognise exceptional teams and individuals who have supported the Group’s vision and goals. The Awards aim to encourage a high standard of work performance in support of achieving the Hayleys Corporate Goals as well as the development and successful implementation of the Group’s projects, policy and systems.         Speaking at the awards ceremony, Hayleys PLC Chairman and Chief Executive Mohan Pandithage stated, “This award ceremony celebrates the achievement of the greatest asset of Hayleys – our employees. This March, Hayleys celebrates its 137th year of existence. The Chairman’s Awards were launched last year to recognise and reward some of our best performing employees.” He further added, “Today’s business world brings out many challenges. However Hayleys is a company that perfectly balances modern day business dynamism on a strong foundation of rich heritage and values. It is this foundation that makes us strong enough to weather any storm that comes our way. It is what makes us resilient yet adaptable and this great culture has been perpetuated by one major aspect of our company, and that is you, our employees.”         Awarded across six areas, namely Innovation, Quality and Lean Management, Service Excellence, Leadership, Environmental Stewardship and Social/Environment Projects, the awards were initiated to appreciate the exceptional work performance of its staff across 13 business sectors. Over its 137 years of corporate ethos, Hayleys has always ensured that its people should work in an environment where they are valued and where excellence and exceptional performance is appreciated. Hence, for the first time, the Chairman’s Awards rewarded and recognised the development and sustainability of high level skills, behaviours and capabilities that are central to building on a culture of strong continuous improvement and organisational success. An eminent panel of judges comprising industry specialists including Dr. Harsha Cabral, Prof. Uditha Liyanage, Dr. Pavithra Kailasapathy, Deepal Sooriyaarachchi and Prof. Ajith de Alwis screened and selected the winners through strict criteria.
