Head of IndustriALL Global Union to visit Sri Lanka on a five-day tour

General Secretary of the IndustriALL Global Union, Jyrki Raina will arrive in Sri Lanka on 15 February on a five-day visit. The Geneva-based IndustriALL Global Union, representing 50 million workers in 140 countries, is identified as the world’s single largest trade union federation. Raina will visit Sri Lanka on a fact-finding mission regarding issues faced by local workers, including those unjustly terminated by their employers. Palitha Atukorale of the National Union of Metal and Migrant Workers’ Sri Lanka (NUMMWS) has said that Raina will hold discussions with affiliates and take note of issues faced by local workers in the manufacturing sector. He said that Raina’s observations will be conveyed to the European Union. During his visit to Sri Lanka, Raina is expected to meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa as well.
