Hellmann geared for total solutions for automotive industry from Hambantota port

With the strategic move of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) to receive all vehicle carriers at Magamruhunupura Mahinda Rajapaksa Port – Hambantota commencing from 31st May 2012, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics through its global vertical – ‘Hellmann Automotive Logistics (HAL) is fully geared to facilitate  the logistics requirements of all vehicle importers including formalities within the port such as customs entry passing, clearing and delivery as well as overland connectivity to respective vehicle PDI centers/ showrooms/display points within Sri Lanka.

Speaking to the Daily FT Hellmann Worldwide Logistics Sri Lanka Managing Director Tania Polonnowita and Manager Contract Logistics and Consulting Dinesh Gunewardena stated that Hellmann will offer its own fleet of customised car carrier trailers which will connect Hambantota to multiple destination-delivery points within Sri Lanka.

Clients will have the flexibility of receiving all deliveries of imported vehicles at their respective door/point as per mutually agreed arrangements. They also went on to say that in addition to haulage, Hellmann will also offer free/ long term storage options under open and closed yard areas, facilitate PDI centre operations and other value additions through its parking yard in Hambantota.

Gunewardena also cited that Hellmann will continue to maintain its global service standards offered within the automotive logistics vertical to all its patrons with due emphasis on safety and mitigation of risk elements involved, visibility and transparency of information, on – time delivery  and  reliability especially to handle peak/specialised operations.   Currently under its automotive logistics vertical Hellmann offers a wide gamut of services to the global automotive industry including, spare parts logistics, assembly line logistics, procurement logistics, customs brokerage, transport services – (sea/air/rail/road), warehousing and supply chain management. Many passenger and commercial vehicle manufactures/distributors as well as third party suppliers of accessories to the global automotive industry are being served.

Hellmann has already established infrastructure arrangements at ground level required for offering this service and have signalled their proposed solution at a very high level to all stake holders of the industry including importers – (agents/re-con importers).
