Hirdaramani’s eco friendly Mihila unit has won the world famous Nike’s Green Award.

The Company said the award was presented by Nike representatives during a recent visit to Mihila. The award was in recognition of the success of the Lean and Green Manufacturing initiatives implemented by the Hirdaramani Group.

The Hirdaramani Groups’ first eco-friendly factory, ‘Mihila’ meaning Earth, is also the world’s first custom built green apparel factory. The factory has succeeded in decreasing its carbon footprint by reducing energy consumption by 48%, water consumption by 70% and implementing a 100% waste management system.

Despite not using air conditioners, the factory is designed to stay cool through its modern evaporative cooling system, while cutting electricity usage further with its use of prismatic skylights to let in natural light. In addition, the well-planned solar panel system provides much of the factory’s power consumption with any excess power generated supplied to the national grid.

Moving beyond the building itself, Mihila sits on a plot of lush vegetation and the Hirdaramani Group is currently documenting the bio diversity in partnership with the IUCN World Conservation Unit with the aim of monitoring, protecting and developing its natural ecosystem.
