HNB receives Energy Efficiency Award

Haritha Kedalle, Hatton National Bank (HNB) Nittambuwa branch building was presented Silver Flame Award at the Sri Lanka National Energy Efficiency Awards held on 19 August at Colombo Hilton. The event was conducted by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority of Ministry of Power and Energy.

It is the apex institution for the energy management and improvement of energy efficiency in the country. HNB Deputy General Manager-Services Piyal D. Hennayake who accepted the award disclosed that  HNB as a pioneer innovator in the banking industry built Haritha Kedalle in Nittambuwa and received LEED (Leadership of Environmental and Energy Design) Gold Certification in 2011. Haritha Kedella was constructed facing Kandy-Colombo main road which is the gateway to two thirds of the country and was opened in 2011. It is the first Green Bank Branch building in the country.

HNB received Silver Flame for its landmark Head Quarters HNB Towers at the second Sri Lanka National Energy Efficiency Awards in 2011. The Sri Lanka National Energy Efficiency Awards is an annual national event conducted by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Authority with the aim of recognising the contribution towards an energy efficient Sri Lanka.

“We are delighted to be recognised for the second consecutive year for our commitment to have energy efficient buildings and expect to be recognised for an award in 2013 for the green building been constructed in Jaffna,” said Hennayake.
