HNB Towers wins National Energy Efficiency Silver Award

“HNB Towers” is a landmark 22 storied building that has been constructed almost 10 years ago by incorporating state-of-the-art systems.This is owned and managed by Sithma Development (Pvt) Limited,a fully owned subsidiary of Hatton National Bank (HNB).

HNB Head Quarters and a few corporate offices are located in this Tower.  When compared with any other building “HNB Towers” can be termed as one of the best energy efficient buildings in Sri Lanka.     

In recognition of this fact, HNB Towers was awarded the Silver Award in the Large Scale category for Commercial Sector Buildings at a glamorous ceremony held recently.  The Presentation of “Sri Lanka National Energy Efficiency Award - 2011” was  held in BMICH organised by Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority.There was no winner for the Gold Award in Large Scale commercial sector buildings.The chief guest at the ceremony was the Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka D. M. Jayaratne and the award was presented by the Minister of Power & Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka.

Sri Lanka National Energy Efficiency Award competition is an annual event conducted by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority for public and private sector institutions with the aim of recognizing their contribution towards Energy Secure Sri Lanka. This was launched in 2010.As a result of various energy efficient features incorporated at HNB Towers it has been proven to achieve following bench mark values.

The electrical power consumption for the air conditioning system at HNB Towers is less than 50% of the total electrical power consumption of the building. In a conventional building this figure is normally greater than 60%.

The After Diversity Maximum Demand (ADMD) in HNB Towers is in the neighbourhood of 50 VA/m2. In a conventional building this figure is in the range of 70 ~ 100 VA/m2.

HNB always strives to incorporate energy efficient systems and practices.  Recently they opened the first green bank branch in Sri Lanka in Nittambuwa.  This building was rated Gold under LEED Certification for a new building by the US Green Building Council.
