Holcim Lanka hosts annual employee awards in grand style

Absent: Engineer (Mechanical) Thilakarathna Herath, Engineer (Planning) Sumith Perera, Design Officer Kamani Wijethunga and Superintendent Nihal Witharana     Holcim Lanka, construction solutions provider in Sri Lanka hosted its annual employee recognition ceremony to applaud exceptional performers in nine categories. The awards ceremony titled ‘Supiri Awards’ is a landmark event in the Holcim Lanka calendar and recognises the strongest performers in the organisation with prestigious laurels and accolades popular among all Holcim employees. Holcim (Lanka) Ltd. Manager Recruitment and Organisational Development Bernadine Fernando commented: “Holcim Lanka has a strong focus on developing leadership capabilities, create ownership and engagement with the talent pool available along with Holcim embedded values to pursue the organisation’s triple bottom line approach of planet, profit and people. Annually we gather all employees to reward true performers and recognise them across our manufacturing and administration location. The award ceremony is only the celebration; the award process takes place in our integrated manufacturing plant in Putalam with technical evaluations with an independent panel of recognised judges exposing participants’ new areas of improvements and to set continuous higher individual standards.” Many prizes including tour packages, cash awards, gold coins, medals and trophies were given away in recognition of contributions made towards growth of the organisation and efficiency of business processes. Holcim Lanka believes in investing in people and Supiri Awards is a grand gesture of this core belief that has propelled the organisation to the forefront of the industry. Awards were presented under categories listed as; Supiri Award (Gold, Silver, Bronze), Outstanding Sales Person – All Island, Best Regional Sales Manager Award, Best Area Sales Officer Award, Best Innovative Idea Award (Gold, Silver, Bronze), Star of the Function Award (Individual and Team Category), Safety Award (Gold, Silver, Bronze), Green special merit award, Special Merit Award (Individual and Team Category). Commenting on his win, Mechanic (Fitting) T.V. Laksri says that he had been working at Holcim Lanka since 2004. “I have obtained much experience at Holcim Lanka and I am able to provide professional mechanical services thanks to the training I have been given here. I appreciate the support extended to me by the Holcim Lanka management at all levels including HR, Maintenance and Galle and Puttalam Plants in winning this and I truly am grateful for the honour.” The selection panel consists of reputed corporate personalities in Sri Lanka in alignment with the stature of the awards given away. University of Sri Jayewardenepura Postgraduate Institute of Management Board of Management Acting Director and Chairman Dr. Ajantha Dharmasiri; Kapila Dodamgoda – CEO of ICMA (Australia) Sri Lanka Branch, Managing Director of the Academy of Finance Ltd. and Asian College of Management Ltd.; Stephen Paulraj – Sales Capability Manager at Fonterra Brands Lanka Ltd., Competency Development Consultant, Lecturer of Management Subjects (MBA, MSc), Sales and Corporate Trainer and Motivational Speaker; and Fazal Gaffoor- CEO of Amana Takaful Insurance and Member of the Board of Directors of Amana Takaful Life Ltd. The selection criteria itself is a comprehensive mix of parameters upon which judgment is made to ensure well informed decisions and awarding. Considerations are made in respect of factors which include; innovation and initiation, successful implementations, cost saving percentage/value addition, sustainability and change management, demonstration of leadership, knowledge transfer, cross functional contribution and additional contributions. This year marks the fourth consecutive of Supiri Awards and the applications submitted have exceeded 150 boosting motivation among the all management levels of employees, Holcim Lanka also engages its employees through extensive initiatives much like the Supiri Awards which is the grand finale to an engaging year.
